Founders
We start with the relationship between the person and the problem: people who have taught, run school systems, worked within government or implemented on the ground. Product and market come after.
01WHY WE EXIST
Millions of children in Latin America finish school without the basics, and inequality starts there. Technology promised to change that picture. Over the past decade, investment multiplied; learning did not.
Futura was born from that discomfort. Technology is not the villain of this story. What was missing was capital patient with education's clock and committed to real impact, measured in learning. Our hypothesis is that education calls for a different architecture of capital. We do not know if we will get it right. At the very least, we want to fail differently.
02WHAT FUTURA IS
Futura is a venture philanthropy fund for early-stage edtechs in Latin America.
It is not a grant. It is not traditional venture capital. It is not an accelerator. We invest patient capital, as equity or debt, in companies or in nonprofits with a sustainability logic, and returns are recycled into the fund to back the next founders. We build alongside, up close, from day one on.
We treat ourselves as an experiment: more questions than certainties, strong hypotheses, and our own way of testing them.
03HOW WE THINK
We know what has not worked. These are the choices we make in the opposite direction.
01
We start with the relationship between the person and the problem: people who have taught, run school systems, worked within government or implemented on the ground. Product and market come after.
02
Small checks that grow in stages, testing one thing at a time: is the problem real? will someone pay? does it scale? Capital follows uncertainty, with no rush to become a unicorn.
03
Impact is an investment condition from the first conversation, measured by the Futura Impact Score (FIS), our 0 to 100 scale for depth, reach, equity and evidence. Screen time does not enter that math.
04
We invest up close. Three hands-on partners and a network of specialists from day one, close enough to help for real, without taking over the founder's trench.
05
Teacher development, school management, assessment, learning recovery. Problems that, once solved, move learning, equity and mobility. Gadgets and comfortable niches stay out.
